Democratic Republics and Pure Democracy

I wanted to write this essay to clarify between the two main theories of democracy, which are democratic republics and pure democracies. However, to start, as I explained extensively in the Voter Directed Democracy book, it is very, very clear that democracy is much better for any population of citizens when compared to any less-democratic and more-authoritarian system of government.

In order words, any governmental theory of democracy is better than any theory of authoritarianism like dictatorships, oligarchy, plutocracy, and monarchy. This is because true and honest democracy is the most representative and inclusive form of government, promotes self-determination the most, balances political power the best, fights corruption the best, and has the greatest ability to protect human rights in comparison to less-democratic and more-authoritarian political philosophies.

I will relentlessly stand by and defend the superiority of democracy. There are of course many things we can do to help improve our flawed, corrupt, and increasingly authoritarian party-driven democracies and democratic republics in order to align our practices of democracy with the amazing theories of democracy. Most importantly we voters can now collectively choose to evolve into Voter Directed democratic republics. But any system of democracy is immensely better than any authoritarian system of government.

Furthermore, for governmental theories of democracy, it is also very clear that democratic republics are far superior to pure democracies. All of the 90,000 governments in the United States, which include all of our counties, states, and our federal government are democratic republics to my knowledge. In short, a democractic republic is a type of democracy where a constitution creates a network of elected officials that come together in various branches of government to make political decisions. A Voter Directed Democracy is a democratic republic.

Pure democracy, on the other hand, is a deeply flawed theory of government in which voters decide on and enact the Public Agenda without elected officials being empowered to office, creating a republic, or being part of the political process at all. Pure democracy is most commonly found today in parts of labor unions and is often the structure used to operate a Board of Directors for both for-profit and non-profit institutions.

It just doesn’t make any sense to operate any large-scale public government system as a pure democracy. It is terribly impractical and has never, to my knowledge, been attempted. Modern public government is just too complicated to hold accountable and function smoothly as a pure democracy. Again, it does make sense for various smaller-scale private institutions to operate as a pure democracy but all public government systems should remain democractic republics and ideally evolve into Voter Directed democratic republics.

It is also extremely important to note that anyone who favors pure democracy over a democratic republic in the United States also philosophically opposes the US Constitution. In other words, if you philosophically oppose democractic republics, you also oppose the US Constitution. Thus, in my opinion, opposing democratic republics as an ideal system of government is philosophically wrong and also insane on a practical level.

In other words, to attempt to oppose the democratic republic created by the US Constitution in any practical way is philosophically stupid and an act of insanity. This is because every soldier in the US Military, which the strongest, bravest, best trained, and best equipped military fighting force ever assembled, swears an oath to support and defend the US Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

This is very real. If anyone acts in opposition to the US Constitution, they are acting in opposition to the entire US Military and many other powerful elected officials and other government officials that also swear an oath to protect the US Constitution. Acting in opposition to the democratic republic created by the US Constitution in favor of a pure democracy or any authoritarian system of government is literally one of the dumbest and most dangerous things anyone in this world can do.

Thus, I enthusiastically and proudly support the US Constitution and the visionary, evolutionary, and amendable democratic republic it creates. And for many philosophical, practical, and patriotic reasons it is infinitely clear to me that democratic republics are the better theory and type of government when compared to pure democracies or any authoritarian system.

Thank you.
